WHAT MAKES A GREAT BEANIE?
It should keep you warm. But why shouldn't it look good too?
A great beanie is one of those perfectly simple things.
Pull it on. Head out the door. Forget about it.
But underneath that apparent simplicity are a few things worth getting right.
Start with the fibre
The material makes a difference.
At love Kate, we choose 100% Pure Cashmere and 100% Pure Merino Wool for our beanies — natural fibres with very different characters, both with plenty to offer.
Cashmere is exceptionally soft, wonderfully light and remarkably warm for its weight.
Merino wool is naturally breathable, warm and lightweight, with the versatility to perform beautifully across changing temperatures.
Good materials make a great starting point.
Then there's the feel
A beanie sits right against your head, so softness matters.
A good beanie should feel comfortable from the moment you put it on — not scratchy, stiff or something you're desperate to take off five minutes later.
Look at the knit
The construction matters too.
A well-made beanie should have a considered knit, a comfortable amount of stretch and a shape that sits naturally on your head.
The ribbing, the finish, the turn-up and the way the crown comes together all contribute to how the finished beanie looks and wears.
Small details.
Big difference.
And then there's the fit
Too tight and you'll know about it.
Too loose and it may never quite stay where you want it.
The right beanie should feel secure without feeling restrictive, and sit comfortably without needing constant adjustment.
Good enough to wear everywhere
A great beanie shouldn't only be reserved for the coldest day of the year.
Wear it walking the dog.
Running along the beach.
Watching sport from the sidelines.
