WHAT DOES UPF 50+ ACTUALLY MEAN?

Sun protection, explained simply.

We all know sunscreen matters.

But what exactly does UPF 50+ mean when it comes to clothing and hats?

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor

It measures how much ultraviolet (UV) radiation a material allows through to your skin.

A material rated UPF 50 allows around 1/50th of UV radiation to pass through — blocking approximately 98%.

The “+” means the tested material has achieved a UPF rating above 50.

Useful information for something you're going to wear on your head — and rely on to help protect your face.

Why does the material matter?

Not all materials provide the same level of UV protection.

The material, construction, colour and density can all influence how much UV radiation passes through.

That's why a hat isn't simply about shade.

The material matters. So does the shape of the hat.

At love Kate, we take sun protection seriously.

Our hats with UPF ratings are independently tested by ARPANSA for their UPF performance, with the applicable rating clearly identified on each product.

UPF 50+. UPF 30. UPF 15.

If a hat doesn't have a UPF rating, we say so.

We believe in doing, not simply saying.

Because you're worth protecting.

A little love Kate tip

Look for the UPF rating.

And remember: a hat is only one part of your sun-protection routine. Sunglasses, sunscreen, protective clothing and seeking shade all have a role to play too.

Do it for you and those you love.

Good design. Good protection. Good outcome.
