What is cashmere, really?
Cashmere is the ultimate in luxury: a super-soft, natural fibre collected from cashmere goats roaming the chilly mountains of Mongolia, China, and the Himalayas. Unlike regular wool, cashmere feels feather-light and impossibly soft.  Showcasing a warmth minus the weight (just like us/just like you)!  love Kate cashmere is grown and styles meticulously made in Inner Mongolia by one longstanding, fabulous local supplier (now family friend who's lovely)!

How do we get from goat to love Kate Accessories?
Every Spring, goats naturally shed their cozy winter undercoats.  Any remaining cashmere fibres are gently hand-combed out by the herder.  The fibre is collected, cleaned, sorted, and spun into beautiful yarn, and finally knitted into sublime love Kate accessory styles to be cherished year on year.

Why is cashmere so expensive?
Each goat produces only a teeny bit—about 200g—of usable cashmere per year. It often takes fibre from one goat to knit a beanie, three goats to knit one scarf! Add in the careful collection process, the origins remoteness, the short season and its dreamy texture, and you’ve got a luxurious, rare material.  One well worth investing in, especially if it’s love Kate!

What makes cashmere better than wool?
You’ll feel the difference instantly:

  • Warmer than sheep’s wool
  • Lighter (no bulk!)
  • Gentler on sensitive skin
  • Hypoallergenic and durable when cared for properly

How do I care for my cashmere?

  • Hand-wash in cold water with a gentle shampoo or detergent (or dry-clean at a push).
  • Don’t wring or twist—lay flat to dry.
  • Let your love Kate cashmere style rest between wears (if you can!) for longevity.

Will my cashmere pill?
A little pilling is natural and happens with all cashmere, especially in high-friction spots. Superior cashmere, love Kate with longer fibres will pill less, and cared well, will delight for years.

How sustainable and ethical is cashmere?
When sourced responsibly (like us!), cashmere is naturally renewable and biodegradable. At love Kate, we’re passionate about cashmere that’s farmed with love for goats, the land, the farmers/ herders, (and you)—look for brands (like us!) that champion sustainability and animal welfare.
